Tap dance is a dynamic and percussive dance style where dancers strike the floor with their feet to create intricate rhythms and melodies. Wearing shoes with metal plates on the toes and heels, dancers produce a distinctive, sharp sound that serves as a form of percussion. Tap can be performed either with or without musical accompaniment, and when paired with music, dancers often synchronize their movements to the beat, creating mesmerizing choreography.

Recognized as a theatrical art form, tap dance is frequently showcased on stage and in musicals. It has its roots in mid-1800s America, particularly in the Five Points neighborhood of New York City. By the early 1900s, tap dance had gained widespread popularity, with legendary performers like Bill "Bojangles" Robinson leading the way.
